Baseline, or pre-injury, tests are used to assess an athlete’s balance, brain function and  for the presence of any concussion symptoms. Neuro Active clinicians offer in-office, individual baseline testing.  The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) recommends baseline testing, performed by a trained health care professional, be performed every one to two years.  Results from baseline tests can be used and compared to a similar exam conducted by Neuro Active clinicians if the patient has a suspected concussion. Although post-concussion testing can be performed if the patient has no baseline, the best measure for assessment is comparing scores from the patient's own baseline.  Baseline testing is typically performed in the pre-season, ideally before the first sport practice.

Requirements for Baseline Testing:

  • Must be 12 years of age at time of testing
  • Must have parental consent if under 18 years old
